Pow!Science! is offering weeklong science workshops for Summer 2009. Each workshop will run Monday-Friday from 9AM to 12 Noon and is limited to EIGHT PARTICPANTS (Except Lego Mindstorms, which is limited to 6 participants). Fees listed below are all inclusive.

All Workshops include a snack of popcorn, pretzels and Apple Juice.

July 6th -July 10th: Forensics-Pow!Sci CSI: Ages 8+

Participants will hone their powerss of Science & Observation as they examine evidence, read the clues and reveal the bad guys! Invisible Ink, Crime Scene Investigation, Fingerprinting are just part of the fun, and each Spy-in-Training will also assemble their very own Electronic Motion Detector!

Kits for this week are the Action Products Fingerprint Investigation Kit and the Elenco Motion Detector.

NEW! Just Added! July 6th -July 10th: Adventures in Science: Ages 5-7

Young experimenters will love the variety & challenge of 4 exciting science kits and dozens of experiments! Chemistry, Biology and Buoyancy are among the topics we'll dive into as we discover new Adventures in Science!

Kits for this week are Young Scientists Club's Mysteries of Rainbows & Journey into the Human Body, and Thames & Kosmos's Little Labs Cars & Boats Kits

Fee for this week: $225.00

NOTE: THIS CAMP ONLY will be running from 1pm to 4pm, NOT 9 to Noon!


July 13th-July 17th: Robotics

Registration Fee for this week is $150.00 + Robot Kit Prices as listed below.

Each participant builds a new fun & easy F1 Solar Racer (included in your Registration Fee), and can choose 2 additional robots to build during this week:

Building experience and ability to read and follow fairly complicated instructions are necessary for this workshop!

July 20th-24th:GreenTech-Renewable Energy Technology: 8+

It's pretty clear that our children (and even moreso, their children) will be utilizing technologies other than fossil fuels to power their world. Explore and experiment with Wind, Solar and other renewable energy sources. Build and race a minature solar scooter and 5 other sun-powered vehicles! Make and use your own 100% recycled paper. Learn how science will build a sustainable future through the wise application of technology.

Kits for this week are Thames & Kosmos's Wind Power and OWI's 6 in 1 Solar Kit.

July 27th-July 31st:Adventures in Science: Ages 5-7

August 3rd-August 7th: Lego Mindstorms: Ages 8+

The Lego Mindstorms NXT Set is the next generation of programmable Lego Robot. Each participant receives this incredible kit and will spend the week learning to build and program this competition level technological wonder. Participants will work in teams of two at one of three computer workstations to learn how to program their creations and make their Robots obey every command! Building experience and ability to read and follow fairly complicated instructions are recommended for this workshop!

Fee for this week: $395.00, includes Mindstorms NXT Kit
Fee if you already own the Mindstorms NXT Kit: $175.00 (you must bring your kit un-assembled)


August 10th-August 14th: Chemistry  Ages 8+
For the pure Scientist, it's all out Chemistry all week long with beakers, test tubes, goggles and chemical concoctions. Proper Lab Procedures and Safe Experimental Techniques will be covered along with a staggering number of Chemistry Experiments. Towards week's end, we'll show your Scientist how to prepare and view Microscope Slides for a peek into the micro-world all around us.

NOTE: The chemicals in this week's workshop can indeed be harmful if misused. This workshop is for participants who are willing to follow proper procedures, NOT take chemicals and mix them randomly without any idea of what may result.

While we of course make every effort to impart safe experimentation techniques to all participants, please use your best judgment when deciding whether or not this workshop is appropriate for your experimenter.

Kit for this week is the Thames & Kosmos CHEM C2000 250 Experiment Set.

August 17th-August 22nd: SpaceTech: Mission Alpha  Ages 8+
2009 is the International Year of Astronomy, so let's get into Space!

Participants will discover the digital world with a unique Electronics Workshop--following along with Robot Robert M-3 as he begins his apprenticeship aboard a Space Station orbitting Earth! Build a telescope and a star map as we explore outer space and the objects in it. Finally, build and launch a real rocket with the Alpha III Rocketry Set. Please note that on Friday, August 14th, we will meet at Gano St. Park in Providence to launch our rockets instead of at Pow!Science! After launching, we'll continue on to Pow!Science! and finish our day.

Kits for this week are the Thames & Kosmos Electronics Workshop I and Space Exploration Kits, and the Estes Alpha III Rocket Starter Set.
